Rob Gies, who oversees the new Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) office at °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ, also serves as the NNS Engineering Professional in Residence at °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ.
Gies, an associate technical fellow at NNS, has 35 years of experience as an engineer, engineering manager and program manager. He is also an °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ adjunct faculty member with the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering.
He is a triple graduate of °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ, having earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a master’s degree in Engineering Management, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Management and Systems Engineering.Â
In his role at NNS, he supports students across engineering, business, technology, and modeling and simulation programs. His office, located on the second floor of °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ’s Engineering Systems Building, provides a direct connection between students and NNS for professional development and mentoring opportunities.
