A sea of red will take over campus from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on September 25 as Monarchs rally for heart health during 凹凸视频鈥檚 annual "Moving Monarchs for Healthy Hearts" event.  

The tradition of a one-mile walk around Kaufman Mall will continue this year, with the new addition of classic field day games including cornhole, three-legged races and tug of war. 

The event, a collaboration between the University and the American Heart Association Hampton Roads, is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and community members to prioritize their physical and mental well-being and connect with each other in a way that promotes cardiovascular health. 

鈥淲e are deeply grateful to 凹凸视频 for its incredible support in raising awareness and advancing the mission of the American Heart Association,鈥 said MeShall Simmons, executive director of the American Heart Association Hampton Roads. 鈥淚t鈥檚 inspiring to see students actively engaged in promoting heart health. Their energy and commitment are vital to building a healthier future for all.鈥 

There will be health screenings, heart-healthy snack preparation demonstrations and a variety of stations with cardiovascular educational materials. The first 400 participants to arrive will receive a free T-shirt.  

鈥淐ardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States and it impacts so many families right here in Hampton Roads,鈥 said Leryn Reynolds, Ph.D., director of 凹凸视频鈥檚 Wellness Institute and Research Center, Integrative Cardiometabolic Lab and the 2024 recipient of the American Heart Association鈥檚 LIVE FIERCE award 

鈥淭he good news is, events like this bring us together to raise awareness, inspire healthy habits and support lifesaving research that saves lives,鈥 she said. 

There is no fee to participate in the event, but monetary donations will be accepted at the American Heart Association table on the day of the event.

Shuttle service will be provided between the medical campus and the main campus from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

In case of inclement weather, the rain date for the event is Sept. 30.
