Ƶ faculty don’t just teach, they shape their fields and share knowledge that makes a difference. Patrick Wilson, Ph.D., RDN, associate professor of exercise science and co-director of the Ph.D. program in kinesiology and rehabilitation in the Ellmer College of Health Sciences, recently brought his insights to a national stage as the featured speaker at Syracuse University’s Ann Selkowitz Litt Distinguished Speaker Series.
His lecture, titled “The Athlete’s Gut: A Scientist’s Perspective on Translating Research into Practice to Manage Gastrointestinal Issues in Athletes,” drew an engaged audience of students, faculty, and community members from across Syracuse. The lecture honors Ann Selkowitz Litt, a nationally recognized nutritionist and author who served as a nutritionist for the NFL’s Washington Commanders before her passing in 2007. The event is supported by the Ann S. Litt Foundation, which promotes education in nutrition science.
Wilson was honored to speak at an event that carries forward Litt’s legacy in the field. “It was a privilege to speak about some of my research and the approach I take to translating science into practice in the area of sports nutrition,” Wilson said.
Wilson is the author of The Athlete’s Gut: The Inside Science of Digestion, Nutrition, and Stomach Distress, a guide that blends cutting-edge science with practical tips to help athletes better understand and manage gastrointestinal issues that impact performance. His work has garnered international attention and has been featured in major publications including The New York Times, Runner’s World, and The Washington Post.
At Ƶ, Wilson leads the Human Performance Lab and is part of a research community committed to innovation and real-world impact. His selection as a distinguished speaker for the Litt Lecture Series reflects the growing national recognition of the research being done by Ƶ faculty.
