Fixed-Route Shuttle Services

Monarch Transit is °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ's shuttle service, providing FREE fixed-route bus service to all Students, Faculty and Staff with a current °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ ID.

The shuttles stop at all University academic areas, residence halls, parking locations and athletic fields. Off-campus stops to local popular commercial destinations are available on weekends. To ride Monarch Transit, please have your °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ ID Card ready for rider verification.

Shuttle Information

At this time, for the safety and health of the Monarch community, only current °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ students, faculty, and staff may ride the shuttle. A valid °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ ID Card must be presented upon boarding the shuttle.

  • Face masks must be worn at all times.
  • A valid °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ ID Card must be presented to the driver upon boarding.
  • No smoking onboard.
  • No drinking or eating allowed; all food must be stored.
  • No belligerent or unsafe behavior.
  • No luggage or possessions too large to fit in a rider's lap.
  • Only service animals are allowed onboard.
  • You may ride with your bike. All of the shuttles have a bike rack on the front.

All Monarch Transit shuttle buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts located towards the rear of the vehicles. Shuttle drivers operate the lift and assist with boarding.

The BLUE ROUTE services the Norfolk campus in the clockwise direction, and takes about 20-25 minutes to complete a full circulation of campus. The Blue Route is frequency based, with 8-12 min headways in mornings and early afternoons, and 10-15 min headways in the evenings (after 6pm).

The Campus Connector Route is a new service that introduces transportation from Norfolk State University to Virginia Health Sciences campus to °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ main campus. The route will begin Monday, August 25th, 2025, and start at Norfolk State University’s E.L. Hamm Fine Arts Building departing at approximately 7:44 a.m. to reach °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Perry Library at approximately 8:15 a.m. After leaving °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Perry Library at approximately 8:20 a.m., the Monarch Transit will cycle through the designated stops below 3 more times before its final morning drop off at °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Perry Library at approximately 11:35 a.m. 

At approximately 12:40 p.m. the afternoon cycle will begin at Norfolk State University’s E.L. Hamm Fine Arts Building and reach °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Perry Library at approximately 1:15 p.m. After leaving °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Perry Library at approximately 1:20 p.m., the Monarch Transit will cycle through the designated stops below 3 more times before its final afternoon drop off at °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Perry Library at approximately 4:35 p.m.

  • Monday – Friday, starting August 25, 2025: 7:40 a.m. - 4:35 p.m.
  • Route will start at Norfolk State University at 7:40 a.m. and end °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ at 4:35 p.m.
  • Shuttle will sit for approximately five (5) minutes per stop to load and unload.
  • Driver breaks will be from the hours of 9:15 a.m. - 9:40 a.m., and 2:15 p.m. - 2:40 p.m.

Walmart Route

The Wal-Mart Route provides transport to the Walmart on Tidewater Drive. This route completes a full circulation of the on-campus Silver Route stops between off-campus trips. A complete trip off and back to campus takes approximately 45-60 minutes.

The last on-campus stop before departing campus is Rogers Main Hall.

The Ghent Grocery Route service provides transportation to several grocery store and a pharmacy on 21st. Street in the Ghent neighborhood south of °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ's main Norfolk Campus. This service is an on-demand service during specific service dates and times. Please see service dates, times, and designated pick-up, and drop-off locations below.

  • Beginning at 2:00 p.m., this route is combined with the Silver Route stops.

The International Market Route service provides transportation to three international grocery stores. Grand Mart located on Newtown Road in Virginia Beach, Anas Halal Grocery located on Virginia Beach Boulevard in Norfolk, and Royal Bazaar located on Military Highway in Norfolk.This service is an on-demand service during specific service dates and times. Please see service dates, times, and designated pick-up, and drop-off locations below. A valid °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ ID is required to ride the shuttle and riders with a valid °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ ID can have one guest. The shuttle can be tracked using the Transloc App.

For the duration of the winter season, a Snow Route has been established for days when the University experiences significant snowfall and/or icy road conditions that prevent Monarch Transit from operating at full service.

The Snow Route circulates campus clockwise, staying on the immediate perimeter streets around the core rectangle of main campus: 43rd St, Powhatan Ave, 49th St and Hampton Blvd.

°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ Mobile notifications listed under 'Transit' will notify riders if Snow Routes are in effect.
