As we head into the new semester, this is just a reminder that Panopto is replacing Kaltura as 凹凸视频鈥檚 enterprise video platform for creating, managing, and delivering videos, particularly within Canvas courses. We have migrated content from Kaltura to Panopto and continue to offer training opportunities for faculty who want to learn more about this new service.

Panopto offers several benefits, including:

  • Enhanced Functionality: Providing a more user-friendly interface and a wider range of features, making it easier to create, edit, and share videos.

  • Improved Accessibility: Offering greater accessibility features, including automatic captioning and transcripts, which will benefit everyone using our video platform.

  • Seamless Integration: Integrating seamlessly with Canvas, making it easy to incorporate videos into your courses.

What happens to my existing videos?

  • Videos created or accessed since December 1, 2022, have been migrated to Panopto. Links to existing content 鈥 from Canvas or from 凹凸视频 websites 鈥 will automatically redirect to new Panopto links.

  • Videos created and last accessed before December 1, 2022, have been securely archived. Kaltura will stay online in read-only mode for the next few months, giving you plenty of time to verify your content, but we will keep a secure backup of the entire Kaltura library indefinitely. There is no risk of losing your videos. If you ever need an archived file restored after Kaltura goes offline, simply contact the IT Help Desk.

Get started

You can start creating and accessing content in Panopto today.

In Canvas

  • Panopto tools and content are now located in tabs called 鈥淢y Media - Panopto鈥 and 鈥淢y Gallery - Panopto鈥 in Canvas. (Kaltura tools have been renamed 鈥淢y Media - old鈥 and 鈥淢edia Gallery - old鈥 and will eventually go away.)

  • All links and references to existing course content will be updated in Canvas automatically.

Outside of Canvas

  •  using your MIDAS credentials to create and manage new content.

  • All migrated content from Kaltura should already be available in Panopto. Kaltura will be available in a read-only state after August 22 until it is fully decommissioned in December.
